When you try to help solve a conflict between two people and it doesn’t work out and then they blame you, it’s easy to feel upset or frustrated. Mindfulness can help you handle these tough emotions with care. When you notice blame coming your way, pause and take a slow, deep breath. Notice how your body feels and what thoughts come up, without judging yourself.

Remind yourself that you tried your best and that you can’t control other people’s actions or feelings. Allow yourself to feel whatever emotions arise, and offer yourself kindness, just as you would to a friend in the same situation. If you need, step back for a moment, focus on your breath, and let go of what you cannot change.

Mindfulness helps you stay calm and compassionate with yourself, even when things don’t go as planned.
